  : Unfortunately, and not the fault of the property, there was no water on our second evening. One begins to appreciate the importance of water in so many of one's daily activities, especially when it involves toilets.

  : Overall, we had a great stay at Brae Cottage. We stayed in the ground floor room with the private bathroom and it was very nice. We had our own private entrance into the house. The house was beautifully decorated and incredibly clean and it was very nice having both a living room and a lounge as place to hang out. Even though other guests were staying upstairs, we always had space to ourselves. The kitchen was amazing and very well equipped. Sometimes properties like this are lacking things in terms of pots/pans/utensils/kitchen gadgets, but the kitchen here at Brae Cottage had everything we needed to cook meals for the weekend (including some of those less common things like a cheese grater and pasta strainer). The breakfast was also really great! The host kindly asked us ahead of time about special dietary needs and switched out some ingredients for us. Very thoughtful. There is a washer and dryer available for guests to use (laundry detergent as well) and both appliances worked very well.
  : We originally booked this place because it came up in the "places with a hot tub" category and the property photos showed a hot tub on the back patio. When we arrived and asked our host about the hot tub, they said they decided to turn it off because previous guests had not followed rules and caused damage to it. At first, they told us we could just get it in with the cold water. When we asked about signing a liability form or leaving a deposit so that we could turn it on and use it with hot water, they were rather curt in their response and said "the hot tub is not included in your booking." I suppose we should have inquired before booking the property to make sure the hot tub was operational and available for guests, but I assumed that the hot tub filter on booking.com and the photos showing a hot tub meant it was available for the guests to use. The only other thing that was a bummer was that it was quite warm and stuffy inside and there is no A/C. There are windows to open, which is nice for the cool evening breeze, but we quickly realized that was a bad idea when swarms of midges started invading our room. We came in the middle of June during a warm snap, so I'm guessing this won't be a problem for the majority of travellers, but you might want to keep it in mind if you're coming in the middle of summer.
