  : Paul, the host, has intentionally created an affordable place to see the island from. He succeeded. Think of the low-price hostels you might have seen elsewhere, and this place is similar. It is old, it is lovingly pieced together from various other pieces, and it is scrupulously clean. The people staying there were near universally friendly and interesting. The room was small, but charming. Everything I needed to work, worked. The shared common room/kitchen is a wonderful space to hang and/or meet new people. Close to the Friday Harbor ferry terminal, well within walking distance.
  : Previous guests clearly didn't learn hostel manners, and the kitchen is now missing a few essentials, such as a cooking spatchula/can opener. Paul fixed that right away when we mentioned it to him. The house is older, and there is a single bathroom for what could be considered too many people in the shared spaces. Just bring your patience and be prepared to wait for a turn to shower during the mornings.

  : We loved that we had an entire private apartment with kitchen, we were only expecting two rooms with an adjoining bath.
  : Our window was missing a screen, and during a heat wave with no AC, we needed the window open. AIr con would have been nice, but it was unusually hot weather during our stay. I understand it’s not usually needed.

  : We did not get the cabin I booked, even after I called to confirm. No AC in the cabins…only a very noisy, very old and small fan provided. No screens on the windows.
