  : We had read reviews where many people were told after saying the hotel seemed 'tired' that the hotel is undergoing refurbishment. I can see that on the hotel's own website, there is mention of refurbishment, but it just mentions that it won't affect guests as it's being confined to one particular area at a time. However, there were a number of aspects of our room that need attending to. We pointed out a couple of things out to a receptionist, who then explained that there was a programme of refurbishment going on. The receptionist gave us directions to the room, telling us where the lift was. We thought there must be stairs to the room as well but she didn't tell us about them. So we eventually found our way to the lift, along with another person who had checked in earlier in the day. We seemed to walk a long way, then followed directions to our room which took us back in the direction of the entrance though on the first floor. Found our room and when we left the room to go out, we found a set of stairs pretty much next to our room which led down to right near the reception and main entrance. We opted not to have breakfast at the hotel as we were going to see friends in the morning, but I did enquire about breakfast before our stay to see if they are able to cater for a gluten free diet. The response was that several items of the usual English breakfast were not gluten free, but they could provide alternatives such as gluten free bread and cereal. As there are other items usually served with an English breakfast, such as bacon, eggs & tomato that are gluten free, it wouldn't be difficult to provide a suitable breakfast for a Coeliac diner, using separate utensils to avoid cross contamination. The breakfast price via Booking.com was extremely expensive, not sure how it compares to the hotel price.
