  : Very picturesque location. The hotel is outside of Martel so need to use the car really. Hotel grounds are lovely. Rooms are quite dated but perfectly comfortable. Hotel food amazing quality. Make sure you go on the train ride round the Dordogne. Its definitely worth it!

  : I will write a review as requested though I wasnt actually able to experience the hotel itself, only the owner Violaine, who was most unpleasant and unreasonable.In brief, I had booked 5 days here in July but ended up unable to go. I exchanged numerous emails about this with the owner, as I really hoped to go, but aware that we might be unable to, I explained that if we didnt come in July we would go in September instead. Therefore, I hoped to change, not cancel the booking, but it was too late for this on Booking.com.The owner assured me that if I cancelled I would only pay 50% of the cost of the stay (even though I just wanted to change and could have done this directly with her). I had no choice but to accept the 50% cancellation fee as sadly we couldnt go.It turned out I was charged more than 50%. I emailed the owner many times about this, and each time she argued that I knew Id have to pay cancellation fees. She blamed the fact that Booking.com hadnt cancelled the booking in time for her to relet the room - although she knew full well we werent going to be coming.I totally understand it wasnt good for her, but as it was the height of summer its doubtful that the room couldnt have been relet and I had paid 300 euros towards it anyway! Also, I explained on several occasions that we would like to come in September and would end up spending far more, as we would be paying for meals and breakfasts.I wasnt expecting a full refund but a gesture would have been very much appreciated. 300 euros is a lot to lose and Id been assured it would be less.She refused to budge, and she even accused me of trying to persuade her to buy my silence by asking her for a gesture of goodwill.All along I was clear about our plans, apologetic and polite.I imagine the hotel is lovely, as is the owner when her customers are happy. I am anticipating a response to this review, no doubt telling me how everything was our fault and how accommodating she was!

  : The dinner and breakfast was very good. This is a characterful property in a lovely location, particularly if you want to hire a canoe on the Dordogne in the summer. We have done this further along the river down to the water park and would thoroughly recommend this safe activity in a river that is only about 4 foot deep in most places. Life jackets are provided but you do need sunscreen and lots of water. You could even pack a picnic. The property was hosting a wedding later in the day that we left.
  : Because they were full with wedding guests, we were on the third floor with no lift. However, it was no real problem and the young man did offer to carry the bags upstairs.
