  : There are very few hotels and only limited B&B accommodation inside the town of Montalcino, so finding the Albergo Giardino was a bonus. It's brilliantly located at the bottom of the main street, about 250 metres from the central square. The rooms are a very good size. We chose one at the back of the hotel to avoid the street noise noted by a previous reviewer, and it proved delightfully quiet. We were in Montalcino in the midst of a heatwave, with day temperatures up to 38C. As a result the portable AC unit in the room was working overtime and struggling, which was hardly surprising. Nevertheless it managed to hold the temperature at a level that permitted sound sleep. Breakfast under the trees in the piazza outside was delightful. The receptionist/manageress is very helpful and cheerful.
  : Not a complaint, but guests should note that there is no lift, so you need to be fit and strong enough to heft your cases upstairs. There are no disabled facilities or access arrangements.

  : We stayed at significantly nicer places for similar prices. The bathroom had an always on heated floor, it was 35-40C outside so you can imagine this wasn't great. The layout of the room was small and awkward meaning it was difficult to do anything with our suitcases. The only real space was taken up by an armchair and the AC unit. The air conditioning unit barely worked and its water drained into an open bucket. The room did not smell great. The bathroom layout was awkward - using the toilet you can be seen from the street unless you close the shutters, the shower is kind of plonked in the middle. We parked where recommended and got a 30 euro parking fine as there were apparently scheduled roadworks.
