  : Beautiful building, great location, well furnished interiors, large and very comfortable bed in the Clifford bedroom, big warm bathroom.
  : No bathrobes are available as advertised, which was a problem as the bathroom is across the hall!! Asked the staff, no joy. So had to walk back into the room wrapped in wet towels which meant they ended up hanging in the room rather than the lovely heated towel rail in the bathroom. Also, soap missing from the sink and bathtub in the bathroom which means we had to use little shampoo bottles instead to wash hands, face and body as the soap bottle available in the shower cubicle could not be moved. Little thing, big annoyance. Bathroom windows were absolutely filthy and covered in spider webs.The room was big and beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. Sadly, the lack of bedside tables and lights on both sides made it awkward to use. My husband uses a CPAP machine which he had nowhere to place, had to improvise and drag a mobile radiator next to the bed (not plugged in, of course). We couldn't find a hairdryer and it was too late to go ask. Cleanliness needs to be improved, starting with big items like the dirty windows and down to smaller details like the dirty soap holder in the room, the soft furnishings which naturally attract dust and need yo be cleaned regularly, the not so clean cutlery, the spider webs in the dining room etc.The continental style breakfast included in the price of the room was very basic but it was something. At busy times basic things like milk and butter have ran out as only one member of staff available on Monday morning. Did not try the cooked breakfast which is available at a supplement. Generally, a beautiful place but sadly, feels like a missed opportunity as lack of cleanliness, amenities and attention to detail let it down.

  : We visit Appleby castle many times we love historic buildings especially castles!Its character is second to none
  : Nothing it was all exceptional!We visited on a quiet time tho a Monday, so the restaurant wasnt open on an evening but we ate in town and that was fine

  : We loved the quirkiness, the essence of the castle and the atmosphere.
  : Didn't like the hidden costs of the cooked breakfast for 9.99 each which included ... one slice of bacon, a bit of scrambled egg, half a tomato and some mushrooms. The breakfast was included in my booking but was told that was for continental. Flies floating in the milk jug and dirty cutlery. We paid 10 each for the Keep tour but no-one took us round, so did it all by ourselves.

  : The historical feeling as original decor restored,the surrounding gardens were nice. The staff and owner were lovely and friendly. Food nice but presentation in keeping with history.
  : Menu limited as no plain options for fussy eaters or kids menu if visiting with young kids.
