  : Comfortable bed and bedding. Breakfast was great with tasty pancakes and plenty of coffee.
  : The bed head was lower than the foot, which one of us can't tolerate.

  : It was great getting a family room as we're a family of 5 and it's tricky finding accommodation that allows everyone to stay in the same room
  : The mould in the bathroom needs addressed and perhaps up grading the bathroom would help. I understand the slopped floor is perhaps part of the properties time it was built but it was tricky sleeping in a bed that I was sliding downAgain all these quirks could be detailed in the room so guests would be aware The staff were lovely when we asked for a heater as the heating hadn't been turned on yet so it was cold There was a socket in the room that kept tripping the electrics.

  : Old property with lots of character in a convenient location close to St Albans cathedral, city centre and verulanium.
  : It was noisy. Our room overlooked Holywell Hill which has a fair bit of traffic. In addition there was a lot of noise from other guests. The bathrooms have macerating toilets, and the flush mechanism is not very effective - we were woken early by the guests in the room above trying multiple attempts to flush it. Not pleasant!There was no shower gel provided on the first night (we had to request some).Breakfast service /quality was poor. Granary bread ran out, we had to request butter, extra marmalade and milk. Fried eggs overcooked, but otherwise the full English was ok.

  : The cleaning staff were superb going above and beyond: Providing everything needed with humour and kindness. The bar atmosphere was fabulous and well staffed, we had a super pre evening meet up there which was enjoyed across the age group. Sadly we ate elsewhere as the prices were too high for one person to pay for, with so many eateries near by: the location is fabulous.The breakfast was mediocre on both mornings. On the second day guests arriving at 9.50 -close to the close at 10.00- were ignored. Indeed the waitress / later receptionist opened the kitchen door then closed it again going back inside. Appearing at 10.00 when asked about serving the guests she said it was closed and she had not seen the guests there. This was totally untrue. She should have either served them or said the kitchen was closed in the first place. Or indeed the kitchen should be advertised as closed at 9.50. This incident on Saturday morning completely spoilt our 2 day stay as this was our last interaction with staff- we had booked many rooms as a large wedding party. The young lady on reception we met on our first day, Thursday, was a delight, helping with parking and showing nothing was too much trouble.Also, evening bar staff were spot on. I would suggest the hotel look at their staffing as the young lady on the desk who had previously been serving breakfast is a concerning choice for the front desk - not surprisingly she ignored us when we gave our key in: not even bothering to look up.
  : Unfortunately, the super staff team were let down by one very rude member.
