  : The room was spacious and clean.
  : The behaviour of the owner & his son, which was agressive & bizarre to say the least. We arrived at 20:00 to find out they had mistakenly given our room away. Whilst the owner & his son were arguing quite vividly re whos fault it was, we decided to remove ourselves from the situation & eat at their restaurant whilst they found a solution. A solution was found at 23:00 when the other guests returned to the hotel & were relocated. After cleaning the room, we were able to enter at 23:30. The next morning upon check out we enquired with the son about a discount on the room rate since it was not available to us until late & as an acknowledgment of the stress caused not knowing where we would stay (with the owner originally saying he had no solution for us). We were offered a bottle of wine & 3 drinks taken off our dinner bill. When the father (owner) arrived to the situation, he went crazy accusing us of not paying the bill (which wasnt true) a& called the local police - who turned up with flashing lights & guns. Whilst we waited police attendance the owner was shouting & screaming in my boyfriends face, waving his hands in his face before pushing him on the shoulder. We somehow remained calm & were relieved when the police turned up. When they did turn up however it was clear that the owner was friends with the local policeman & we figured it was all an intimidation tactic. When we called an Italian lawyer, the police quickly rescinded & gave back our passports & told us we were free to leave/no crime had been committed. We decided to pay the bill even before the police had arrived as the owner was extremely aggressive & we figured there was no solution there & then and that we would take it up directly with Booking.com .   : The place was closet to the sea.
  : The restaurant. The services were bad as the waiter was very rude, and while we tried to order a single meal for each of us, he said that he couldn't serve us just one, we had to order at least an appetizer and a main course. Although he seemed to be the owner's son, he acted like he didn't want us there. Also, the price was an exaggeration(one salad and 2 portions of pasta were 110 euros), and he just added on the room.This part hasn't been specified when we checked in.

  : This is a great option if you want to do the Rilke walk in Duino, which is only five minutes away. The hotel has a restaurant with excellent food, especially fish dishes. The room was spacious, so was the bathroom.
  : The hot tub was not working -- we went up to use it and the water was lukewarm and none of the various buttons we pushed had any effect. The AC unit in the room was not ideal -- it was very noisy and drafty when on and the room quickly got stuffy when it turned off.

  : Very pleasant short stay at Gaudemus. Stylish and clean rooms with an excellent restaurant downstairs, and friendly staff.
