Cortijo Zalamea - Zalamea la Real

El Cortijo Zamalea is a collection of villas set in Huelva’s Sierra de Aracena foothills. It has a large garden with an African-style pavilion outdoor pool and paddle tennis court. The air-conditioned villas and studios at El Cortijo are decorated in cheerful colours and a mix of rural and African design. Each one has a well-equipped kitchen or kitchenette and a furnished veranda or balcony.

Villas also have a lounge with TV and a fireplace. One free basket of firewood is provided. There are communal barbecues on the Cortijo Zamalea’s shady terrace. The gardens contain fountains and are surrounded by fruit trees and farmland.

The Sierra de Aracena Mountains are popular for hiking and cycling. The Cortijo can also arrange horse riding excursions. The beaches of the Costa de la Luz are 60 km away while the UNESCO-protected Doñana National Park is 80 km away.

: Great location, very comfortable, plenty of space to eat, cook, good size bedrooms, comfy beds, lovely swimming pool area with sun beds.
: Sadly, there were a couple of issues which let the place down for us. On arrival with 3 cars full of shopping , we parked under the shaded parking spaces to be told in a rather hostile manner not to park there, we need to park by the large cortijo where we were staying. We had to go into reception and fill in the tourist forms with our details (which is law here in Spain) but on request that could the drivers at least have the key so they could unload the shopping before it got too hot in the cars- nope- not possible. Secondly- where it advertises there is free wifi - this only for the individual apartments near the main house, so, with poor phone reception at our Cortijo and no wifi- those of us that had important work commitments had to walk down to the pool. Thirdly- it also advertises there is a laundry facility- this is only for guests staying 7 days or longer. Fourthly- there is not enough hot water to cater for 10 hot sweaty hikers or cyclists to shower after a long day of walking- we were told you must stagger your showers to some at the start of the day, some in the middle and some at the end- not very practical at all. If these issues were recorded truthfully on the property description then this would have been fair and we may have chosen alternative accommodation or factored this into our plans. The green light above the doors was rather annoying too- but I guess they must have them for emergency purposes!!!

: It is a very beautiful place and a very comfortable accommodation with the chance to cook simple meals. It is very well located to visit Minas de Rio Tinto and other very interesting places around. The hosts are very nice and friendly. Would return easily if we will be in the region.
: Nothing special to mention besides the internet connection.
